The next two videos of the Scaling Rails screencasts are now out. As I mentioned before, these screencasts look awesome on an iPhone.
Once you’ve done as much Page/Action/Fragment/Object caching you can do, and you’re still looking to improve throughput and page load time then it’s time to look at client-side caching using max-size, etags, and last_modified. Luckily, Rails makes it dirt simple to take advantage of these headers.
Then when you’re servicing millions of requests and on your way to become the next youtube or facebook, you’ll have the tools you need to take advantage of Reverse Proxy Caches and become globally scalable.
I hope you find these videos useful. Don’t forget to subscribe to the screencast RSS feed or grab it on ITunes to avoid missing any of these episodes.
Your explanation of reverse proxy caching is brilliant. Actually the whole series has been great. Top marks, cheers!
